Campaign Update / Saturday free? Empty Campaign Update / Saturday free?

OK guys so...
Summer is drawing to a close. I have to start getting my plans together for this year's Mordheim campaign.

I think I am free this Saturday and would like to get a game or two in as a rules refresher, anyone available?

There are a number of topics I wanted feedback on, so let me know if you care to chime in on any of these:

1. Should we hold the campaign exclusively as part of our club or run it at the shop?
Our group may be more fun, and the hours are more flexible because Bill's house doesn't close at 8pm (hehe). However I already did announce that there would be a campaign at the shop on the message boards, and there is more terrain at the store.

2. Should we allow Shadow Elves in this year's campaign?
Last year there were some complaints about them being too unbalanced. On top of that, the game designers themselves have blatantly admitted that the warband is completely broken and the elves have no place in Mordheim. However some of the people who played against them last year were not too upset about it, and poor Luke has no other warband painted pale (get painting Luke).

Here is my basic idea right now:
We have two separate but related Mordheim events.

One is a “campaign weekend” at the store. This would be limited to official/approved warbands. We play a bunch of linked games over the course of a weekend, and that’s it. This could be a more “competitive” campaign, and maybe we can have everyone chip in a few bucks and do a prize for the winner like the WHFB/40K leagues. I already have some ideas that I’ve been working on as far as how the campaign weekend would work, more like a tournament.

Then we also have an ongoing Mordheim campaign as part of our club. This one will be more open to unofficial warbands, and we can keep it going over the next few months until the Warhammer League gets going again. In fact, there’s no reason we can’t keep it going, playing a few games here and there, until next year’s Mordheim campaign, when we all start over.

I love Mordheim, and playing with our smaller group opens it up to some more interesting ideas like doing a Lustria or Empire in Flames campaign one year, with the alternate warbands, scenarios, etc. I downloaded the rules for all of these before they took down the Specialist Games web site. I am also much happier to leave nice terrain at Bill’s house for our group to use than leave it at the shop where it usually ends up getting destroyed, so I think this club is going to be a great development in our Mordheim games!!! The only problem is that I feel bad about just abandoning the shop completely, which is why I like the idea of doing the campaign weekend as well.

That’s a lot to digest…
Let me know what you think.

Firstly, I may be free this weekend to get in a few practice games, but anyone reading this if your free you should come by as well just in case I can't make it and it would be good playing different people ( I wouldn't mind sitting out a couple of games to watch).

About the shadow elves, personally I wouldn't mind them. They were quicker than me and shot me up last year, however I almost always had the upper hand once I closed in on them, and I believe Luke and I were about even in the amount of wins we had against each other. Plus they look so nice it would be a shame to see them go to waste.

I like the idea of the campaign being only people in the group, however im sure there are a few others that might want to include themselves, and if it happens where a couple of us can't make it to certain games, it would be the same 3 people playing against each other all the time. There's also the fact of the terrain at the store, although Bill does have a bunch of it at his house too. I'm undecided on this one, let's see what everyone else has to say about it.

Hey,
OK cool, let me know what you guys all think.
As far as this Saturday goes, looks like my "free day" just got shot down, so I have to cancel, sorry.
Maybe we can meet up on a Friday night again at Bill's at some point?

The only problem I have with meeting on a Friday night at the shop is that I probably can't get there until about 9 or so and they close at 10 so it doesn't leave much time to get anything done. Any other weeknight they close at 8, so I can't even make it there at all.

Bill, what time does your wife kick everyone out at your place? Haha, come on, you know she's in charge...

here is my opinion:

I feel that with our own group, we can really get involved with the game and even try Empire in Flames etc. BUT i do not see a problem with also getting games in at the shop and with people NOT in the group. Sal, if you want to bring some of your better peices to my house (smaller) do so. I think if you bring the original paper stuff you have that would be great. There is PLENTY of terrain at the shop that belongs to the shop or others. I dont think John would care if you took your stuff home, after all, we are all adults and have our own places and lives.

Sal, go to the shop, pick the stuff you want to keep at my house, BUT get a file box. THis way if we ever meet at Nino's or Scott's I can place it in a box and bring it. OR you could take the box and bring it as you please. We can work something out. I have plenty of space in my war room. I also keep my warhammer/40K stuff in file boxes.

In the past, I usually see limited people involved with Mordhiem. If we got 2-4 others from the store that arent in the group, we could play with them at the shop....maybe even see if they are club candidates. BY THE WAY...whos is Durthuspoon?

This sounds like a really good idea.
It would be a great way to get people that don't know alot about Warhammer into Warhammer.
It also sounds like a great way to expand our group, hopefully we can get some people who have space to play.
(Like that Justin guy, he's all prim a proper, but knows WHFB pretty well and is actually alot of fun to play against)

As for regarding my Elves, Maybe in a prolonged campaign they would become over powerful as the Developers have stated. Although, I don't think our campaigns last long enough for me to really be "broken" Like James said, I was almost always out numbered and flanked. The only edge i feel I had was in INT stat was considerably better to start as a new group. Obviously poor tactics can give any war band a winning edge.(Sorry Greg, having a shoot out at the OK Koralle with Night elves will get your presents dead.)
My main issue with Sal saying "no elves" is I just felt like i was being singled out for trying to pick a "effective warband". If the rules stated previously, no expansion war bands meaning (Dwarves, amazons, Carnival of Chaos, ect.) I would not have been as upset. Though Since it isn't a sancitioned league I don't think it needs to get that serious. Plus everyone with a "man" warband is kinda boring. (IMHOP). I can see about building a second Warband if it's really turns out to be a major issue. At worst, I'll just play at "Club" meeting with the elves. I might be able to jerry-wrig An Undead warband, I have enough Undead models to last me a small lifetime.
My wife's Mother died last weekend and we just got all the funeral arrangement and the like over with today. Money is going to be tight for a while, So I may have to just stick to "Club" matches for the time being.

All-in-all I say just have a vote, whatever the majority rules I'm fine with.

I was too busy to stay and get any games in this weekend. I stopped in on Saturday for a few mins though, no one was around. It's good to know there will be table space on the weekend, there's no way I can get there on a week night any more. Spoke to T and Dan and they said usually Friday night is the only time table space is all taken.

I went a little crazy and bought yet another fortified manor set on eBay and also a bunch of terrain from a company called Pegasus. Now I just have to find some time to assemble and paint all this stuff and we'll have some pretty cool Mordheim terrain.

By the way - you guys were asking about DruthSpoon - I think I remember his name was Doug.
